1. 研究目的与意义

In China, most people speak English as a second language. In most conditions, they start to learn English after they master Chinese. Students are accustomed to thinking and communicating with their mother tongue, therefore, the transfer of mother tongue often occurs in English learning. When Chinese learn English, the use of mother tongue affects second language acquisition directly, and it may produce positive or negative interference. Positive transfers help us understand English better. However, negative transfers make serious influence on English learning. In English teaching, we should pay attention to negative transfer on second language acquisition, and help students improve learning outcome.

2. 研究内容和预期目标

Through analyzing the influence of transfer of mother tongue on second language acquisition, the topic itself aims to improve students English learning in the future.

The paper concentrates on the positive and negative transfer. It consists of five parts. Chapter one is about literature review and brief definition about transfer of mother tongue and second language acquisition. Charter two talks about the theories of second language acquisition. These theories include behaviorism theory, mentalism theory and transfer theory. Chapter three analyses positive and negative transfers through voice, vocabulary, grammar and so on. From these comparisons, we can find that negative transfers play more parts than positive transfers. Although we discover more negative transfers, we can rectify and improve English learning. Therefore, chapter four shows how to enhance positive transfers and correct negative transfers. Chapter five sums up transfer of mother tongue and hopes that students can learning second language better.

3. 国内外研究现状

With China#8217;s rising international status, it is essential for college students to master standard and fluent English. However, in our present English learning process, the negative transfer phenomenon has always plagued the majority of English learners. For this phenomenon, both domestic and international scholars give their views.

Rod Ellis mainly expounds the role of the first language (usually mother tongue) in the second language acquisition, and gives examples of Chinese and Japanese due to the

differences between the first language and second language. American linguist, Susan Gass and Larry Selinker have pointed out that anyone who wants to offer interpretation of second language acquisition has to take the critical factor-language transfer into consideration. Language transfer has been a central issue in the field of second language acquisition and foreign language teaching. With the rapid development ofcomputer technology and the establishment of learners#8217; corpus, the corpus-based study on language transfer has made great progress.
